What is your monthly food budget given the recent inflation?

Hi there, 29 year old single guy living in SF. Not in tech, living on a median Bay Area income. I know this question was asked a couple times in this feed several years ago, but with the recent inflation, I am curious what people are spending on groceries and eating out on a monthly basis.

I have been budgeting $750 per month for food since I moved here a couple years ago -- $450 for groceries and $300 for everything else (eating out, dates, and going to bars with friends). That seemed pretty easy to hit even last year, but the past 6 months, I have noticed my grocery bill ticking into the $500s without any changes in my diet. I got extremely fed up last month when I spent more than $600 on groceries alone. I had to buy a couple big ticket items like protein powder, but still, that is so much money for food!! I could be a bit more frugal, but I already shop at Grocery Outlet, Trader Joes, and Costco (with occasional stops at my corner market if I forget something), and I basically meal prep chicken+veggie+rice for most of my lunches and dinners. I already spent $200 this month, so I fear this is just the new normal.

I could up my budget and eat the cost, but this already feels like a ton of money so I think I just need to eat out less. Is anyone else feeling this pain and what, if anything, are you doing about it? Is my budget just too small?

EDIT: Just a bit more context, I am a distance runner so I have to eat a lot.. may explain part of why my numbers sound a bit high despite already living frugally (makes it extra frustrating)!
