If AI were to become sentient in the future, what would it take for you to believe it?

If an AI were to develop consciousness in the future, how would we recognize it? What tests would you apply? If we can’t definitively prove that an AI is NOT conscious, should we assume it isn’t? What if there’s a form of machine consciousness that we don’t yet understand—how do we prepare to identify and acknowledge it as technology evolves?
